Student athletes to benefit from heart-screening initiative

Published:Saturday | January 17, 2015 | 1:52 AM

Student athletes from several schools are to benefit from a cardiac

screening initiative called the One Love, One Heart Programme.

One Love, One Heart is an ongoing screening, monitoring and education programme for male and female student athletes across the island.

The schools to benefit are St Jago High School, Vere Technical, St Andrew Technical High School and G.C. Foster College.

Athletes from these schools are scheduled for screenings and workshops from January 19 to 21 at The Knutsford Court Hotel in St Andrew.

The programme was launched in response to the perception that there is an increase in the number of incidents of sudden cardiac deaths in high school-aged athletes.

It was launched by Jamaicans Abroad Helping Jamaicans At Home Foundation, Team Jamaica Bickle, the Inter-Secondary School Sports Association and Jamaica International Female Football Development.
