Caribbean Airlines probes unauthorised movement of aircraft at JFK airport

Published:Sunday | January 18, 2015 | 6:24 PM

Caribbean Airlines says it is investigating an allegation that one of its aircraft, Flight 526, crossed the runway at the John F. Kennedy International Airport yesterday without authorization and forced a JetBlue flight to abort takeoff.

The Associated Press reported that JetBlue said its Flight 1295 to Austin, Texas, was cleared for takeoff on Saturday evening and rolling down the tarmac at full speed when the pilot was forced to apply brakes.

It is not clear how close the two planes came to colliding. However, there were no injuries. The JetBlue plane returned to the gate and took off for Austin three hours later.

In a release this afternoon, Caribbean Airlines said it was concerned about the incident and was working with authorities to determine the facts.
