Bails extended for cops accused of unlawfully releasing prisoner

Published:Wednesday | January 21, 2015 | 9:28 AM

Bail was extended for two St James cops accused of unlawfully releasing a prisoner from custody last year when they appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Constables Raymond Johnson and Alicia Hutchinson-Brooks were ordered to return to court on February 17 when the trial will continue.

The case had to be rescheduled as one of the defence attorneys was unavailable.

It is being alleged that on January 30, 2013 Constables Johnson and Hutchinson-Brooks took part in the release of prisoner, Greg Taylor, from the Montego Bay police lock-up under questionable circumstances.

The cops have denied the allegations.

Johnson has testified that he was at a party while Hutchinson-Brooks testified that she was on duty in Savanna-la-Mar at the time of the alleged incident.
