St James Police worried about growing number of guns in parish

Published:Friday | January 23, 2015 | 8:32 AM

The head of the St James Police Division Superintendent Derrick Champagnie is expressing concern about the number of illegal guns being recovered by police in the parish.

The St James Division says it recovered a total of 69 firearms in 2014 and six since the start of 2015.

Superintendent Champagnie has commended the men and women under his command for their efforts in removing illegal weapons from the streets of St James.

However, he says the number of firearms being recovered is worrying as guns are the weapon of choice in the commission of murders.

He says with so many guns turning up in the division, it is a matter of concern which must be given urgent attention.
