BITU accuses China Harbour of union busting

The Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU) is accusing China Harbour Engineering Company Limited of union busting.

In a release to the media this afternoon, the BITU said it was joining with the National Workers Union in calling for the labour ministry to put a stop to what it said are victimisation tactics employed by the company.

The union claims the company is victimising workers on the Linstead leg of the North South Highway.

According to the BITU, persons who have insisted that they want the union to represent them are having a hard time keeping their jobs, with some being threatened with lay-offs, and others already fired.

Earlier this month, workers blocked a section of the highway to protest issues related to their salaries.

They also called for union representation and for the labour ministry’s intervention.
