Religious Freedom festival organisers accused of excluding non-Christians
Yesterday's hosting of the Festival of Religious Freedom at the National Arena has come in for criticism from a sect of the Rastafari community.
President of the Rastafari Innity Council, Baba Horace Matthews, says while the Rastafari community is in support of the intent of the festival, it appeared closed to groups outside Christianity.
He says while groups such as the Jamaica Council for Interfaith Fellowship were present there was no evidence of their participation in the proceedings.
Matthews also criticised the National Religious Liberty Association of Jamaica, responsible for the organisation of the festival, noting that the body was made-up exclusively of Christians. According to Matthews, the organisers of the festival intentionally set about to exclude the lesser religious groups.
