Dr Kevin Harvey has been appointed as permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health.
Harvey’s appointment took effect on December 1, 2014.
He replaces Dr Jean Dixon who retired last September after five years in the post.
Harvey says he'll focus on improving primary health care, health promotion and reducing incidents of non-communicable diseases.
The Permanent Secretary says he will be seeking to work closely with the Ministry of Finance on the matter of health financing.
He says greater attention will be placed on areas such as supplies and equipment maintenance.
Harvey joined the Ministry of Health in 2002 where he has worked at several levels including holding the office of Chief Medical Officer.
He is a trained medical doctor with a medical degree and a master’s degree in public health from the University of West Indies, Mona.
Harvey also holds a master’s degree in Infectious Disease from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
The ministry's new permanent secretary is currently pursuing a doctorate in the field of public health.
