Resident Magistrate Sonya Wint-Blair says the police in St Elizabeth should be more careful in how station-bail are offered to persons charged with certain offences.

She complained yesterday that bail is sometimes offered to persons charged with possession of offensive weapons and ganja-related offenses before they face the courts.

And she adds that some persons are given summonses to appear in court to answer to the charges of extortion or wounding with intent.

The Resident Magistrate says those offences could lead to even more serious ones such as murder.

And RM Wint-Blair says the police should be careful in how they offer bail and ensure there is consistency.
