The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into an incident which resulted in the shooting of a mentally challenged man in Manchester.

The man is being treated in the Mandeville hospital after he allegedly attacked a police constable yesterday evening. It is alleged that the man attacked the lawman with a knife just outside the Super Plus Centre in Mandeville, as he patrolled a section of the town on foot.

The police constable escaped injury, but the mentally challenged man was shot during efforts to restrain him.
