Ex-JDF member Davis takes up office as ODPEM director today

Former Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) member Major Clive Davis took office today as the new director general of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM).

He takes over from Richard Thompson who has been acting in the position since Ronald Jackson resigned in March 2013.

Local Government Minister, Noel Arscott, says the selection was made some time ago.

However, he says Major Davis had to be given time to complete a contract in Trinidad and Tobago before taking up the post in Jamaica.

Major Davis has served as the head of the Safety and Emergency Unit at the University of the West Indies.

The Local Government Minister says two other candidates were shortlisted for the post.
