The establishment of the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency will be the focus of discussions at two special meetings of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) that begin in Guyana today.

Last November, COTED endorsed the establishment of the centre following a series of engagements with regional stakeholders.

It is expected tosupport and coordinate the execution of CARICOM’s Sub-Regional and Regional Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency programmes, projects and activities.

And a COTED meeting tomorrow on the environment and energy will also discuss the centre with the CARICOM Secretariat noting that the meeting was recommended to ensure exploration of its full ramifications and optimum exploitations.

The Secretariat also says ministers of the environment and energy will also consider the integration of climate issues into the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Roadmap.
