UDC in talks with international company about Port Royal, downtown Kingston development

Published:Thursday | February 5, 2015 | 4:39 PM

The State-owned Urban Development Corporation (UDC) is now in discussions with a major international company that could lead to the development of several communities from Port Royal to downtown Kingston.

This disclosure by Government Senator and UDC board member Lambert Brown came in the Senate this morning as lawmakers in the Upper House debated the Urban Renewal (Tax Relief) Act 2015.

Senator Brown said he could not give any details on the talks, but disclosed that the UDC was also discussing other initiatives that could lead to the renewal of downtown Kingston.

He says the UDC is exploring the possibility of turning vacant parking lots into entertainment venues as part of a wider plan to make downtown Kingston into an active entertainment area after 5 o'clock.
