Attorney General to reveal Senate recommendation today
Attorney General Patrick Atkinson will today advise the Senate President on how to proceed in the aftermath of last Friday’s Constitutional Court ruling concerning the removal of Arthur Williams as a Senator.
Williams and Dr Christopher Tufton were forced out of the Upper House in 2013 after the Opposition Leader, Andrew Holness submitted to the Governor General, their undated, pre-signed resignation letters.
Last week, the Constitutional Court ruled that the Opposition Leader, Andrew Holness, was wrong.
The Attorney General is to make his recommendation public at a press conference today at the Office of the Prime Minister.
Jamaica College Principal Ruel Reid and businessman Nigel Clarke were appointed to the Senate to replace Tufton and Williams.
Williams has signalled through his lawyer that he will be attending Friday’s sitting of the Senate.
However, Tufton has not yet revealed what action he will take.
