The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says its customers will this month, pay the lowest Fuel and Independent Power Producers (IPP) charges on their light bills in five years.

According to the JPS, the Fuel & IPP charge on bills will be reduced by 18 per cent moving from 19 dollars 35 cents per kilowatt hour in January to 15 dollars and 76 cents per kilowatt hours on February bills.

The JPS says this will contribute to an overall 11 per cent reduction on customers’ bills if their usage remains consistent.

The Fuel and IPP charge makes up more than 60 per cent of customers’ electricity bills, and changes from one month to the next, depending on how much the JPS pays Petrojam for the oil used to produce electricity.
