TWO persons have been confirmed dead and at least one other injured after police and gunmen clashed in Denham Town, West Kingston earlier today, crippling commercial activities in that part of the city.

The shooting started just after 11:00 a.m. and lasted for at least one hour. It reportedly started when a detachment of policemen accosted a group of men along Spanish Town Road.

The men allegedly started the shoot out by firing upon police who returned fire.

Policemen with high-powered weapons and soldiers were out in numbers while residents could be seen watching from the sidewalks as shots rung out in the air.

Residents have accused the police of targeting them because they are aligned to the opposition Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).

The dead men have not yet been identified.
