At least two persons have been confirmed dead and six others admitted to hospital following a traffic collision in Cooreville Gardens, St Andrew about 6: 30 this morning.

According to an eyewitness, the young school girl who died after she was mowed down by the coaster bus had just been assisted by a newspaper vendor to cross from one side of the dual carriageway on Washington Boulevard.

The newspaper vendor told the Gleaner Power 106 news that she had assisted the child who was almost hit by a motor car on the other side of the roadway.

However, she said after escaping near death, the child was not as lucky the second time as she was in the path of the oncoming coaster bus that had just collided with a Honda Civic motor car in the vicinity of Coorville Gardens.

Head of the Police Traffic Department Senior Superintendent Elan Powell told the Gleaner Power 106 News that the driver of the coaster lost control of the vehicle which killed the girl and trapped a woman who was trying to escape its path.

He says the driver of the Honda motor car was treated at hospital while the driver of the coaster bus fled the scene.

Our news team has learnt that the six injured persons were among a large crowd at the bus stop.

The police were unable to give the names of the dead persons as their relatives are yet to be informed.
