East Street Collision

Three persons were involved in an accident along East Street, just outside The Gleaner Company’s back delivery gate this morning. According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the blue Honda Civic motorcar involved in the accident was speeding along East Street, a 50 kmh zone, towards the Gleaner Company. He was trying to turn out of a blockade that was placed there because of roadwork being done to that section of the road. His efforts proved futile as he subsequently lost control of the vehicle, uprooted a wooden light post then collided into the back of the Gleaner delivery truck that was parked on the left side in close proximity to the gate, pinning the male pedestrian between them.

The driver of the Honda Civic jumped out of the window of his car and ran unto the Gleaner premises as onlookers sought to administer their own justice on him. The police, who later came on the scene, sped away with the driver who was still disoriented from his ordeal. The pedestrian was sped away to hospital. The son of the pedestrian was very distraught as he paced back and forth, while a woman tried to console him.

The other young man involved in the accident, a Gleaner employee, suffered minor injuries and was carried away to hospital by the police
