Jamaican boxing received a significant boost yesterday with Burger King pumping $500,000 into the national programme.

The announcement came at a Press Conference hosted at the Sports Development Foundation.

Leroy Brown, General Secretary of the Jamaica Boxing Board of Control, said the financial help would give the national programme a good start.

The boxing series will begin with an Open Championship on January 25 and 26.

The first day will be staged at the Stanley Couch Gym and the second day at the Holy Childhood Auditorium.

Six boxers from Trinidad and Tobago are also expected to compete at the Championship.
