More calls for Tivoli inquest

The Farquharson Institute of Public Affairs is calling for the coroner’s inquest into the controversial killings in West Kingston a week ago to be given the same priority as that for Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer.

The Institute is suggesting that a special investigator be assigned to examine the circumstances under which the five were killed.

According to the institute evidence suggested that the police and soldiers violated laws governing the conduct of their duties.

The five men were killed in what police said was a shoot out, but the residents said the men were shot in cold blood.

Post mortems will be carried out on the bodies of the men today.

International forensic professor Derrick Pounder is to observe the post mortems.

Professor Pounder was also in Jamaica in May 2003 as an independent observer, for the post mortem on the four people who were killed under questionable circumstances by the police in Kraal, Clarendon.
