Federer reaches Australian Open quarter-finals

Defending champion Roger Federer saw off 13th seed Tomas Berdych in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.



Federer had to save two set points before coming through 6-4 7-6, 6-3.



He played James Blake, who beat Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.



Fifth seed David Ferrer beat fellow Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. He will play number three seed Novak Djokovic after the Serb saw off Lleyton Hewitt 7-5, 6-3, 6-3.



In the women’s section, eighth seed Venus Williams reached the last eight with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 win against Poland\'s Marta Domachowska.



Williams will now play fourth seed Ana Ivanovic in the last eight, after the Serb beat Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki 6-1, 7-6.



Other qualifiers are Agnieszka Radwanska and Daniela Hantuchova, who will face off in the next round.
