JLP Condemns Clarke’s Statements

Published:Wednesday | March 4, 2009 | 3:30 PM

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has described statements made by Roger Clarke, opposition spokesman on Agriculture, in Parliament yesterday, regarding human faecal content in imported fertiliser, as ‘irresponsible, mischievous, hypocritical and designed to create panic and instability in the agricultural sector.’

In a release from the JLP sent today, the party said it found Clarke’s remarks hypocritical and claimed that fertiliser with human faecal content was used while he was Minister of Agriculture.

The release further said that the Clarke had absolutely no objection or difficulty with the product at that time.

The JLP also said that Clarke’s statements were a ‘calculated attempt to destabilise the agriculture sector.

The party further stated that ‘research shows that the fertiliser being used now is not only of high nutrient value and environmentally friendly but also of the highest quality.’
