Jamaica’s world 100-metre record holder Asafa Powell will depart in less than two weeks for Australia to continue his training for the Olympic games in Beijing, China this summer.

Powell, the 2007 Sportsman of the Year, will stay in Australia for three weeks.

His coach Steven Francis will accompany him in Australia. Other members of the touring party include Michael Frater, Darrel Brown and Sherone Simpson.

While in Australia, Powell will compete in the Sydney Grand Prix on February 16 and the World Athletics tour meet in Melbourne on February 21.

At the Beijing Olympic, Powell will attempt to become the first Jamaican to win the 100 metres title.

Powell finished fifth at his Olympic debut in Athens three years ago behind disgraced American Justin Gatlin.
