Chambers wins 60-metre dash

Dwain Chambers won the 60-metre dash yesterday at a British qualification meet for the world indoor championships, but he could still be excluded from the team.

Chambers, who served a two-year ban for testing positive to the steroid involved in the BALCO doping scandal, won in 6.56 seconds at the British indoor championships.

The win should give Chambers one of two places available for that event on the British team for the worlds in Valencia, Spain from March 7 to 9.

UK Athletics will meet today to decide on selection and could exclude Chambers on the basis of exceptional circumstances.

Chambers ran yesterday after overcoming objections by UK Athletics that he could not compete for Britain, because he had not been drug tested since his ban ended two years ago.
