Jamaican world record holder Asafa Powell has withdrawn from this weekend’s Sydney Grand Prix because of an injury on his knee.

The injury required four stitches to his left knee after Powell fell, while running up his stairs at home, before departing for Australia.

Powell said he was late for training and was running up the staircase when he fell.

He is expected to compete in next Thursday’s World Athletics Tour in Melbourne.

The Sydney Grand Prix should have kicked off Powell’s Bejing Olympics campaign.
