Dean hitting Eastern Parishes



Tropical Storm Force winds associated with Hurricane Dean are now bearing down on the eastern parishes of Portland and St. Thomas.

Arthur Green, our correspondent in Portland is reporting that more persons have now started to move into emergency shelters.

The latest forecast from the Weather channel are that the system could get worst as the powerful category four hurricane moves south of the island.





Fisherfolk still stranded on Pedro Cays



At least 17 persons are now stranded on the Pedro Cays.

According to Chairman of the Jamaica Fishermen Cooperative Havelan Honeygan the fishermen have refused to evacuate the Pedro Cays:





JPS shutting down national grid



The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says high winds have started to affect its power system.

Head of corporate communications, Winsome Callum says some communities have already lost power.

And she says the national grid will be shut down shortly as the hurricane continues to bear down on the island.
