When all flowers have vanished in late spring,

Peach blossoms around the hill temple are in full bloom.

I oft regret nowhere to follow spring’s footsteps.

Yet who knows that I bump into it at this place!

By Bai Juyi

Translated by Zhang Xiaoyang

The poet Bai Juyi (772–846), was a renowned Chinese poet and Tang dynasty government official. Many of his poems concern his career or observations made about everyday life, including as governor of three different provinces (from Wikipedia).

The translator Zhang Xiaoyang is a Chinese poet and journalist who works for China Media Group.

The accompanying painting is by Giuseppe Castiglione (1688-1766), who was an Italian missionary painter who spent about 50 years in China, painting for the emperors in the Qing dynasty.
