DomRep outfit takes over Jamaican Hyundai dealership

Hyundai announced the appointment of Magna Motors Dealership Limited as the official Hyundai distributor for Jamaica.

By the end of August, Magna Motors Dealership will open a Hyundai Service Centre at 22 Balmoral Avenue in Kingston. This will be followed in November by the opening of a new showroom and car-care centre at a new location.

Magna Motors Dealership is a subsidiary of Magna Motors located in Dominican Republic. Agustin Lama is listed as the owner.

Magna Motors has dealers

for Hyundai since 1977.The Jamaican operation lists JosÈ Gabriel Lama as company secretary, Juan Vargas as general manager with Agustin Lama and Antonio Lama as vice-presidents.

The 22 Balmoral Avenue service centre location has always housed Vons Motors which at one time were agents for Fiat and Geely motor cars. They presently sell Jamco motor bikes.

Avelino Rodriguez, the president of Magna Group, declined comment on the investment being made in Jamaica.

Hyundai motor cars and trucks have been distributed by the Desmond Panton-led Key Motors since the mid-1990s. They had showroom and service facilities at

10 Hagley Park Road and another showroom at Shop 1 in Tropical Plaza.

Panton was reportedly "in meetings" despite repeated contact and did not respond to specific messages.
