JSE website down but trading unaffected
The website of the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE) went down intermittently from Sunday but trading was largely unaffected, sources indicate.
At 4.30 p.m. the site would not load, but read “service unavailable”.
Three traders indicated that the issues to the website did not affect trading ‘from the floor’. One trader, however, indicated that it would have affected investors who use the JSE online trading platform to trade.
“There was no issues on the traders side. Trading was fairly consistent,” stated a local trader who asked not to be named but is based on the outskirts of New Kingston.
I wasn’t immediately known whether the issue related to internal testing, maintenance or whether the it related to the external servers.
When contacted, JSE managing director Marlene Street-Forrest was in a meeting. Telephone calls to the JSE’s technology department went unanswered.
“I think the online trading might have been affected. I only heard of one case of it affecting online trading. Otherwise for me trading was okay,” stated a trader at a New Kingston brokerage house .
“People couldn’t use the site to check the price changes at will,” said one adviser from a boutique brokerage house, who asked not to be quoted as he was not authorised to speak on behalf of the company.
