Access Financial manager resigns
As the Dolla Financial takeover bid for Access Financial Services Limited, AFS, heats up, manager in charge of sales and marketing at Access Financial, Deveta McLaren, has resigned, effective September 30, 2022.
In a notice via the Jamaica Stock Exchange, JSE, last week AFS announced the impending departure. At the same time, the company said it was thankful for McLaren’s services.
McLaren is chairman of the board at the government’s National Export-Import Bank. She joined AFS in February 2012. Prior to joining AFS, she worked as special projects coordinator in the Office of the Prime Minister, marketing manager for Western Union Jamaica, and prior to that with the GraceKennedy group. She has served on the boards of the government’s Jamaica Social Investment Fund, Child Development Agency and the National Irrigation Commission. She is currently also serving on the board of the state’s investment promotions agency, Jampro.
When contacted, McLaren declined comment on her departure from Access. She also would not comment on whether she is on her way to join Access’ rival Dolla, which is preparing to launch what is shaping up to be a hostile takeover bid.
The Financial Gleaner understands that the management at Access Financial was locked in meetings last week discussing the future of the company. Access is listed on the JSE’s junior market. It has a loan book of $4.65 billion and assets of $5.84 billion.
Calls for comment from executive chairman Marcus James went unanswered.
