BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC - The first named hurricane for the 2015 Atlantic Hurricane season has now weakened to a tropical storm.

The National Hurricane Centre says Danny continues to lose strength as it heads towards islands in the northern Caribbean.

A tropical storm warning is now in effect for Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, St.Kitts-Nevis and Anguilla while a Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Saba and St. Eustatius, St. Maarten, Guadeloupe and St. Barthelemy.

Additional watches or warnings could be required for portions of these islands by later Sunday morning.

At 8:00am (local time) the center of Tropical Storm Danny was near latitude 15.7 North, longitude 56.7 West. Danny is moving toward the west near 15 mph and this general motion is expected to continue into Sunday night.
A turn toward the west-northwest is forecast on Monday.

On the forecast track, the center of Danny is expected to be near the Leeward Islands late Sunday or Monday morning.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts. Slow weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles from the center.
