It was postponed from Heroes Day, for whatever reason, but this time the promoter, Passa Passa Production, is certain that Everton Dawkins’ latest roots play, Bashy Big Yard, will be staged at the Ocho Rios High School on Sunday, December 6.

The play had a successful run in Kingston and is now being staged at various venues across rural Jamaica, Ocho Rios being one of them.

“As we say, Ochi, the wait is over because Ochi had been waiting all this time for this play and we’re just coming back,” Dawkins said.

“We have set a new date, which is December 6, but the venue is now Ocho Rios High School, and everything else remain the same. We’re saying, Mr Bashment move him big yard from Kingston to rural Jamaica.”

Bashy Big Yard stars Maxwell Grant as Mr Bashment, otherwise called Bashy; Leon Parkins as Lemon, Patrick Smith as Diggle, Tanice Ellis as Tanice, Sasheenie Edwards as Sashy Dell and Cavin Carthy as Cavin.

The play surrounds Mr Bashy, who owns a big yard which he rents but has difficulty collecting rent from his tenants. While he was trying desperately to rectify this problem, his younger brother, Lemon, unbeknown to Mr Bashy, was telling people he owned the premises and was actually renting the place.

“At one point, Sashy Dell come fi rent the house and see this man (Bashy) inna di yard and literally a put di man outa him own yard because according to she, is Lemon house,” Dawkins explained.

Bashy Big Yard, according to Dawkins, is an answer to a play earlier this year.

“There was a show earlier this year that suggested that Bashy was dead, so this one is saying that Bashy is risen, it’s like a counter-action,” he said.

The play continues the long working relationship between Dawkins, the playwright and Maxwell, the actor - a relationship that stretches close to 20 years and covers several memorable plays, most of which were produced by Dawkins’ Dynamite Production.

For this play, Dawkins has opted for Passa Passa Productions, a company named off one of his most popular plays, Passa Passa.

The rural run for Bashy Big Yard, includes shows in St Thomas on November 28, Old Harbour on the 29th, Lucea on December 5  and Ocho Rios on the 6th.
