Chef Terri-Ann Brown, owner and creative director of Kukup Kreations, passionately expresses her love for food.

Sweet treats. Everyone loves them, whether it’s on special occasions or every day. Either way, KukUp Kreations has got us all covered. Tailored for taste, Terri-Ann Brown explained that KukUp Kreations was birthed nine years ago out of a passion for cooking, baking, and teaching despite her being told by one of her high-school teachers, “The pots are too heavy; women shouldn’t be chefs.”

On that note, the KukUp boss explored the possibilities of her love for academics by pursing a bachelor’s degree in economics and management studies followed by a master’s degree in business management, but deep in her heart, she knew that the kitchen was her safe place.

“First of all, I’ve always loved to cook and bake. I think it stems from both sides of my family, as they are also in the food-service business and those who are not, are always in the kitchen,” said Brown.

KukUp Kreations started in the renovated basement of her parents’ house after her friend took the reins and decided that Brown’s talent should not go to waste.

“She’s the one who convinced me to teach other people to cook. She literally came up with a business name by giving me three choices. She printed business cards and even got the students to sign up and take the class,” she said.

From then on, her students started to spread the word about her expertise, and the clients poured in, requesting her for catering services.

After much persuasion from friends and associates that she was, indeed, talented enough and did not need formal education, Brown was still not convinced and set out to study French pastry at Le Cordon Bleu, one of the world’s most elite culinary schools. Instead of duplicating what she learnt, the experience inspired her to create her own recipes and find ways to market them.

“If it wasn’t for my family and team, I would not be able to do all the things I dreamed of with KukUp Kreations as they keep me anchored and pick up the slack where I am not able to because of parental obligations,” Brown explained.

KukUp Kreations is most known in Kingston for its diverse salad bar, mouth-watering oxtail stewed peas, toe-curling German chocolate cake, hot philly steak sandwhich and daily lunch menus which includes one vegan or vegetarian dish where the flavours dance on your taste buds .
