Minister of Health Christopher Tufton encourages Jamaicans to move.

In recognition of World Move for Health Day today, The Ministry of Health and its partners are encouraging communities and companies to coordinate activities that promote physical activity and proper nutrition.

Through its Jamaica Moves campaign, the ministry wants to provide a focal point to generate increased public awareness on the benefits of physical activity in the prevention of non-communicable diseases.

Minister of Health Dr Chris Tufton said, "The overall goal of Move for Health Day is to increase physical-activity participation and promote healthy behaviours. This year, we want to spread the message across Jamaica, and so we are relying on individuals to let us know what is happening in their communities, and if nothing is already planned, to plan something and tell us about it. It is important that we highlight these while also encouraging and giving Jamaicans a platform to join."

He is urging persons who are interested in hosting activities on Move for Health Day to share these events with the ministry.

"If you are having an event or know of an event, you can call, text or whatsapp it to us at 276-6333 or email, or visit the website or social media pages and complete the physical activity form there," Dr Tufton said.

Jamaica Moves is a call to action to get individuals to incorporate at least 30 minutes of physical activity and proper nutrition per day into their lives to fight the rapid rate of non-communicable diseases. The programme is supported by the Ministry of Health, the National Health Fund, Jamaica National, the National Baking Company, and the RJRGLEANER Communications Group.
