FULL LIST: Murders by police divisions ... Homicides jump 19 per cent
Murders have increased by 19 per cent so far this year with 639 people killed up to June 10.
This is 103 more murders than were committed for the similar period last year, based on statistics released by the police force, today.
So far this month, there have been 68 homicides, that’s almost seven murders each day so far this month.
Sections of the Corporate Area and western Jamaica continue to pose the greatest challenge for crime fighters.
St. James, with 122 murders up to June 10, leads the murder tally.
The parish with the fewest murders was Portland with two.
The division with the biggest jump in murders over the similar period for 2016 was St Andrew North with a 125 per cent increase, followed by Hanover with a 106.3 per cent jump.
A closer look at the statistics reveals that only Kingston Central recorded fewer murders during the 2017 period than for the similar period in 2016.
For the rural divisions, only St Mary had a reduction in homicides.
May has been the bloodiest month so far in 2017, recording 137 murders.
