Men held after double murder, high-speed chase
St Thomas Police Division detectives are probing the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of two persons at a service station on Red Hills main road in Morant Bay, St Thomas, on Saturday.
Dead are 49-year-old Christopher Higgins, unemployed, of North Street, Morant Bay, and 22-year-old Katherina Brown, a cashier of Lyssons.
Reports from the Morant Bay police are that about 11:10 p.m., three men aboard a Suzuki Swift motor car drove into the service station and fired several shots, hitting Higgins multiple times.
Brown, who was inside the building, was chased and shot several times. Both victims were taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The gunmen subsequently boarded and tried to escape in the vehicle but were chased by the police to Mountain View Avenue in Kingston, where they abandoned the vehicle. They then escaped on foot in the community, after firing several shots at the police.
Investigations led to three persons being taken into custody for the double homicide. Their names are being withheld until they have been questioned and charged.
