Last year was a learning experience for Honey Advani, as she placed fifth in the competition with only two weeks of practice. This year, the 11-year-old is now the parish champion for St James.

After placing in the top five, she decided to stick to spelling and has been preparing for more than a year, and her hard work has paid off.

"I still can't believe that I won!" she said when asked how she felt.

She admits that she doesn't like studying, but does it because she wants to win.

The grade-six student is not involved in any clubs or any outdoor sporting activity, but she loves painting and talking with her friends.

Watching movies is also on her list of top things she likes and admits that Jumanji (the old and the new) is in her top 10 favourite movies.

In school, she loves mathematics and dreams of becoming a doctor or an immigration officer.

Coach on winning: "Oh, bless the Lord! I'm so happy and so thankful that Honey maintained her composure and she applied herself extremely well, and I'm just elated."

Coach on nationals: "We are ready to take on the task."
