Retired cop pepper-sprayed in traffic stop gets bail extended

Retired Superintendent Altermorth 'Parro' Campbell, who was pepper-sprayed by a cop during a traffic stop in St Andrew last month, had his bail extended when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.

In an incident which drew national attention after a video recording was posted to social media, Campbell was pepper sprayed by a constable after disobeying instructions to his vehicle to be arrested.

He is facing charges of careless driving, driving without a seat belt, disobeying a constable's command, and driving without insurance. The resisting arrest charge was withdrawn.

The charges have been transferred to the Traffic Court, where Campbell is booked to appear on July 30.

Co-accused Muriel Chambers, who is said to be the owner of the vehicle, has also been charged with driving without a license and aiding and abetting. He is also to appear in the Traffic Court.

 

 

Mom, children missing since Monday

The police are trying to locate 27-year-old Shantel Scott and her two children, six-year-old Ackeem Rose and two-year-old Amelia Rose, of Partridge Way, Hellshire Park in Portmore, St Catherine.

The police say Scott is of dark complexion, medium build and is about 5 feet 3 inches tall.

Ackeem is of dark complexion, slim build and is about 3 feet 6 inches tall and Amelia is of dark complexion and slim build.

The police report that Scott and her children were last seen at home about 7:30 a.m. on Monday.

Scott was said to be wearing a red and white dress. The mode of dress of her children is unknown.

Anyone knowing their whereabouts is being asked to call the police at 119 or contact the nearest police station.

 

 

JDF to conduct training in St Mary this weekend

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) will be conducting training exercises in and around the Llanrumney community on the outskirts of Port Maria, St Mary, today and tomorrow.

The JDF is advising residents that there is no need to be alarmed by the presence of the soldiers as the training exercises in their community will not involve any live firing and, therefore, will pose no danger.

Residents are asked not to interfere with and/or move training aides. In the event that unexploded ordnances or paraphernalia are found, please report it to the JDF Headquarters at telephone number (876) 960-8776.

Seven Americans, including well known billionaire killed in helicopter crash

NASSAU, Bahamas (CMC):

Seven United States citizens were killed when a helicopter crashed in The Bahamas on Thursday.

The helicopter, which took off from Big Grand Cay around 2 a.m. en route to Ft.Lauderdale in Florida, was reported missing when it did not arrive at the intended destination.

Police officers and residents of Grand Cay later discovered the aircraft overturned in 16 feet of water, off Grand Cay.

The bodies of four females and three males were retrieved from the aircraft.

One of the men has been identified as coal billionaire and philanthropist from the state of West Virginia, 60-year-old Chris Cline, whose daughter also died in the crash.
