A man being questioned by the St Thomas police in relation to the death of 21-year-old Abina Bertram was yesterday transferred into the custody of the Hanover police.

In probing Betram’s murder, investigators reportedly found evidence linking the man to the Hanover crime during a search of his St Thomas home.

However, the police say the man is yet to be charged in the Bertram investigation.

The partially naked and decomposing body of Bertram, of Industry Hill in St Thomas, was found in the community of Nuttsriver last Friday.

The police say that relatives had reported her missing five days before, when she allegedly left home for church in Morant Bay.

They told the police that she was expected to be home by 8 p.m. the Sunday evening, but she did not return and calls to her phone went unanswered.

It is reported that on the following day, a man called for mom from her phone, saying that Bertram had damaged his TV and demanded a $50,000 ransom for her safe release.
