Charlton matriarch, son shot and injured in Manchester
The 75-year-old widow of late former Mandeville mayor and businessman Cecil Charlton and one of their sons is in stable condition, following an attack by gunmen on Tuesday.
Both of them received gunshot wounds.
Mrs Charlton was shot in the hand, while her 43-year-old son David was shot in both shoulders.
The Constabulary Communication Unit reports that the incident took place in Barnstaple about 1 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon as the Charltons were leaving their house.
The Gleaner has been able to ascertain that the Charltons came under attack from gunmen in a vehicle who apparently were waiting to pounce.
The criminals reportedly attempted to run them off the road and when this tactic failed fired on the Charltons.
Despite being wounded, David was able to drive to the hospital.
The police have not yet ascertained a motive for the attack and have appealed to anyone with information on this crime to call 119 or their nearest police station.
