Great social media splash for Festival

Published:Tuesday | August 4, 2015 | 10:44 AM

Every year, like many Jamaicans, I look forward to the staging of the Jamaica Festival Queen competition and the Gospel Song finals. Unfortunately, I live on the opposite end of the island and was unable to be physically present.

The Internet now plays a very important role within society and it is refreshing to see government agencies taking full advantage of such trend. Whoever was in charge of doing the updates did a very good job, as pictures and videos were shared immediately.

'Twitterverse' was constantly being asked to make their pick for the winner of each competition. Responses flooded social media as persons shared their pick for Festival Queen and Gospel Song competition winner. I was very happy with the interaction on social media, as it gave me a chance to dialogue with other Jamaicans who were tuned in, whether by radio, television or being part of the audience.

I would recommend that other agencies pay attention to what is being done by the Ministry of Youth and Culture in staying connected with the youth.
