Lightning bolt by Thwaites
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I wish to publicly express my deepest gratitude to Education Minister Ronald Thwaites for taking less than two days to bring closure to a matter that has affected me and my fellow teachers from as far back as 2009.
After years of futile attempts to bring complete closure through the established channels in the Ministry of Education, out of desperation, I wrote to the minister and delivered the letter by hand at the Heroes Circle offices of the ministry at about 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19.
With the hundreds of correspondence the minister's office must handle each week, I expected a response in three to four weeks and some tangible settlement in about three months.
However, I received a personal telephone call from the minister on Friday, August 21 at 12:30 p.m. to say that the matter has been investigated and that steps have been initiated to effect immediate settlement.
This response by Minister Thwaites must be a record for any government minister on the planet and must not escape public notice. Thank you once again, Minister, and may God bless you.
