Great 'life lessons' column by Ian Boyne

Sincere thanks to Ian Boyne for that excellent Sunday Gleaner article 'Life lessons from Beijing' (August 30, 2015). It was a very insightful piece with points that are priceless gems for those wishing to succeed.

I hope it's printed off by many parents and teachers and handed out to schoolchildren as required reading.

Thanks, too, for Mr Boyne's great work on 'Profile' over the years which helped inspire and fuel my own life. As a poor boy in Jamaica, I would look to 'Profile' to find lessons and encouragement in the hope that one day I would amount to something.

Today, I'm a news presenter and announcer on the BBC World Service and BBC Radio4 in London. For both stations, I became their youngest-ever announcer, and for the World Service, their first black news reader. Those lessons I learnt from 'Profile' paid off.

Blessings and more success to Mr Boyne. Keep inspiring Jamaicans!
