Published:Tuesday | September 29, 2015 | 12:21 PM

In the Gleaner of September 21, 2015, under the heading, 'DPP referral sign of Simmons' ego trip' a letter, written by Lloyd D'Aguillar, was published which made certain assertions and imputations about the chairman, Sir David Simmons Q.C. and the other commissioners of the 'commission of enquiry into events which occurred in Western Kingston and related areas in May 2010', Mr Linton Gordon, attorney-at-law, and the Commission in general.

The Gleaner deeply regrets the assertions and imputations in the publication of the letter in question and apologises to the before-mentioned persons for any embarrassment and/or inconvenience that may have been caused by the publication.

The Gleaner wishes to assure the commissioners and the public, in general, that it has always strived to balance the right of the public to comment fairly on matters of public interest against the right to protection of the reputation of the persons being commented on and will continue to do so.
