Safe roads this holiday season

Published:Wednesday | December 2, 2015 | 12:00 AM

As the festive season approaches, so does the usual merriment of a myriad of social events associated with same. Increased traffic on the roads will be the order of the day. While we travel to and from our destinations, let us do so with care. Gross negligence, excessive speeding, discourtesy for other motorists and road users, total disregard for the road code and irresponsible driving (especially this time of year) have in the past resulted in an all too familiar situation - accidents in which victims die or suffer serious injuries. Do we ever learn from these and other incidents? Or is it just a one-day wonder? Now more than ever before, we need to rise up and wise up. Think consciously and act responsibly. No doubt that we all want to share memorable moments during this holiday season with our families and friends, understandably so. Therefore, let's exercise extreme caution when we travel on the nation's roads. In the end, it saves time, it saves money and, most of all, it saves lives.
