People's Report | TAJ refunding taxpayers after online foul-up
Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is advising that several taxpayers who were recently impacted by the online system error which occurred April 27-28, 2016 and resulted in property tax and traffic-ticket payment duplications, have had these overpayments refunded.
Once it was confirmed that there were multiple payments, the amounts were reversed to customers' credit cards. To date, of the 487 affected transactions identified, more than 380 have been corrected. Work is continuing to address the others shortly.
The procedure to remedy this issue was quite complex and required a manual review of the logs of the affected period. Therefore, taxpayers are being advised that their refunds may not be done in one transaction and will take 48 hours after the reversal has been effected to reflect on their credit-card accounts.
On completion of this exercise, all taxpayer accounts will be updated. This service disruption is being treated with the highest priority, and every effort is being made to have this settled as quickly and accurately as possible.
