Supporting our children a civic duty

Published:Wednesday | May 3, 2017 | 12:00 AM

May is Child Month, and this is a time to show both parents and adults that they must always listen to their children and also other children in the community in which they reside.

Parent, I am sending this letter to you as a member of a PTA committee at a basic school in St Catherine where I show many children at that school my love and direction and a better road to the future.

My son left that school many years ago, but I decided to stay and serve as part of my civic duty to the society. This is so that my island home, Jamaica, can be a place to live, work, and grow children for a better Jamaica.

I urge all Jamaican men to serve on a school board or a PTA committee to help Jamaica become a crime-free island. We as men in society must give a helping hand to the education system and not leave it all on the teachers. One of the main reasons why so many of our young boys commit crime and other wrongs is because many fathers are missing from their lives.

We must commit to be more involved and help our leaders grow the economy for a better Jamaica.

May God bless and keep our children!
