Make beach accessible to all
THE EDITOR, Sir:
We are 30-plus yearly long-term (two to three months) regular visitors to Ocho Rios. We love the beach and fly thousands of miles to get here. We would appreciate if the UDC could make some concession in our situation and make it easier to access the beach. Our winter homes are Turtle Beach Towers, Fisherman's Point and Sandcastles.
During this slow and never ending walkway construction project we are having a real problem with access to the beach, a beach that is literally under our noses.
One way to get to the beach is through the front gate of Turtle Beach Towers and walk towards the ship customs area, and then towards the marina and finally down the walkway, walk all the way down Main Street through town and through the main Beach Gate. Our concern is with the next phase and proposed construction plans that UDC has for the Beach.
I see that a very big chunk of the land is allocated to Moon Palace and which obviously includes Rooms on the Beach!
In the 42 years of coming to Jamaica - the island we love - we have seen it all and so now in our retirement years we want comfort, convenience and a little bit of respect!
