Is Martin Henry for real?

Published:Saturday | March 2, 2019 | 12:00 AM

It is with a sense of amusement that I read Mr Martin Henry’s comments in a story in The Gleaner of Tuesday, February 26, 2019, titled ‘Holness admin makes the grade three years in.’

Given the present state of the society, does Mr Henry feel confident that something positive is happening or has happened? He must be asleep with no oil in his lamp like the five foolish virgins referred to in the Bible.

Henry said that “the Holness administration has held its own and improved conditions in measurable terms.” He continued by saying that “a significant economic out-turn has been the decline of the unemployment rate to single digits for the first time in living memory almost.”

Is Mr Henry for real? Can the public be given the necessary data to justify his claim or have him say what the jobs are and what the types of jobs are that created what would have spiked that?

And can the returns from those jobs (wages) truly feed/take care of the family? Because truly, if they can, then there must be another reason for the high crime rate that people seem to think is as a result of poor living conditions in Jamaica.

It is really ironical that in the very same newspaper, two other articles were also written, and I quote, on A9, ‘Contract work hurting Bustamante’s Legacy – BITU’ and on B11, ‘Inequality a major cause of strife’.

Now, sir, I can point to other issues that would shake Mr Henry’s claim of “improved conditions” of the PM’s Administration. Let’s take a look, for instance, at the high crime rate sweeping all areas of the Jamaican society, the bike noise, the high cost of living, and the list goes on and on.

Let us look at minimum wage and the cost of living in Jamaica.

When is either political party going to get it right and stop treating us, proud Jamaicans, as if we are still in an uncivilized world?

Please, sir, say what you may, but you need to stop patronising the Jamaican society with your conceited, highfalutin garbage. Like the scriptures states, too much knowledge seems to have made you mad.
