A teacher’s cry
THE EDITOR, Sir:
This is a public appeal to the Ministry of Education Region Four. I am a physics teacher who has submitted a copy of my degree certificate to the Ministry of Education in Region Four for it to be processed, in order to receive my correct salary.
It is a fact that teachers in Jamaica suffer because of the mediocre remuneration package that is given to us for the tumultuous work done in the nation’s schools. Can you imagine getting only half of that meagre bone? Jamaica continues to lose its teachers, especially those of mathematics and science. The classroom conditions have got extremely overbearing. It is a war zone. Teachers have to deal with rowdy students, the undue pressures of the administration, the parents as well as the Ministry of Education, which fails to understand that teachers need their salary. I would like this matter to be looked into with much urgency, because this will only contribute to Jamaica losing more of its teachers.
