Letter of the Day | The perfect gift
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Good Friday is a day that most countries specially recognise as the time when Jesus gave up His life to save the human race.
“All have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Rom.3:23). This means that all of us are in need of forgiveness.
Our sins have separated us from God (Isa. 59:2). This means that we are in need of a Saviour. The well-known Scripture, St. John 3:16, says : “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This is the main heartbeat of God’s love for us.
God has no desire for anyone to perish, but for all to come to repentance. As the Lord said in the book of Ezekiel 33:11, “ Say unto them, as I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?” This is a plea from a heart of love.
As we enter into this Holy Season, let us all reflect and introspect and ask ourselves: Is my heart right with God? How many of us are consciously and purposely trying to walk the straight and narrow way?
We are living in a time where narrow-mindedness is frowned upon, because the world’s views have been inclusive and unfiltered. “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Gen. 6:5).
We who want to travel on the narrow path cannot at the same time be inclusive, because the Holy Scripture says: “Surely you know that the wicked will not possess God’s Kingdom. Do not fool yourselves; people who are immoral or who worship idols or are adulterers or homosexual perverts or who steal or are greedy or are drunkards or who slander others or are thieves — none of these will possess God’s Kingdom. Some of you were like that. But you have been purified from sin; you have been dedicated to God; you have been put right with God by the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God” (1st Cor. 6:9-11, Good News School Bible).
We have to take a stand. Our mission is to try to convert those who are rebelling against God’s will, not to condone and accept such a lifestyle. “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon” (Matt.6:24).
The signs of the time are so vivid. The choice is ours. If you are not willing to serve Him, decide today whom you will serve. “As for my family and me, we will serve the LORD” (Josh 24:15).
My earnest plea is that you do the same. Serve the God who made the heavens and the earth. Amen.
Most Holy God, glory belongs to You forever and ever and ever. Amen and amen.
